“Chamberlain’s Singing Is To Die For… Weddings, Funerals, Bar Mitzvahs”
Well, no bar mitzvahs yet, but Orange-based songbird Judy Chamberlain sure knows how to help people get hitched in style.
“We can help people on the most important day of their lives with knowledge that they might not be able to find anywhere else,” she said. “A 25-year-old kid getting married might not want ‘The Way You Look Tonight’ for the first dance, so we have to go to the next level. The bride might say, ‘My mother loves Dean Martin, but I don’t know what’s appropriate for a wedding.’ I just say, ‘Relax.’”
This is where Judy brings in her encyclopedic knowledge of the Great American Songbook, personally selecting and crafting live wedding music to please participants of all ages.
A Judy Chamberlain wedding isn’t cheap by any means — depending on the month and/or day of the week, it can lighten your wallet by $3500, but you’ll get top-flight entertainment, up to and including guitar virtuoso Al Viola. Yes, that Al Viola. The Frank Sinatra Al Viola.
Weddings aside, Judy also books the entertainment at Shelley’s Courthouse Bistro in Santa Ana and can be heard there and at venues such as Partners Bistro in Laguna and Spazio in Sherman Oaks.
If you adore standards done up most jazzily with impeccable taste and aplomb, you need to hear Judy.
And as for funerals, she’s not kidding.
Judy has a client for whom she’s already worked up a send off song list.
“She was very specific,” Judy said with a smile. “She wants things like ‘You Don’t Send Me Flowers’ and ‘The Way You Looked Tonight.’”
