Thank You For The Music!

I only dance to ‘My Foolish Heart,’ and only when Judy Chamberlain is singing it.Papa John Phillips, The Mamas and the Papas
If I write you your own lyrics to ‘My Way,’ will you sing it?Paul Anka
I’ve heard a lot of singers, and most of them don’t have ‘it.’ You have it. And I know the difference; I’m a singer myself. You may very well be the best singer I’ve ever heard. I wish I could sing the way you do!Richard Chamberlain, Honolulu, HI
Judy takes care of business and sings the hell out of a tune the way Sinatra did. She can come out of nowhere and take the pickup on the song — no warning — and the band is instantly with her because she gives great signals. Like Sinatra, she’s always in the moment and never does anything the same way twice. Her timing and phrasing are impeccable. I love working with her, because I’m never bored.Al Viola, longtime Frank Sinatra band guitarist, “Godfather” mandolinist
Judy makes magical moments like no other bandleader I have ever worked with. And that’s what it’s all about for me: magic.Kye Palmer, The Tonight Show
Judy Chamberlain puts together the best musicians in the world; her bands are always fantastic! People love the music, and we always have a lot of fun together. She knows a lot of songs, and she sings them just right.Bill Watrous, jazz trombonist
If Judy Chamberlain didn’t exist, someone would have to invent her.L.T., Radio Executive, NYC
Judy Chamberlain is a walking encyclopedia of The Great American Songbook.Chuck Niles, Jazz DJ K-JAZZ 88.1 FM, Los Angeles, CA
Judy Chamberlain is a singer who’s always a pleasure to hear. In part, because her astonishing repertoire makes every performance a fascinating journey through a century of song. But even more so because she brings such care, authenticity and musicality to everything she touches.Don Heckman, International Review of Music
Chamberlain is a gifted performer with a friendly, seductive voice and no shortage of rapport with the audience.Max Jacobson, Los Angeles Times
At a Chamberlain performance, it’s hard to tell who’s having more fun, the musicians or the audience. Chamberlain is a skilled and sensitive tour guide, a real jazz singer who uses texture and color to weave a highly entertaining spell. Like Duke Ellington, Judy Chamberlain is a master at gathering together unique soloists and blending them into a superb ensemble.Scott Yanow, L.A. Jazz Scene
We wanted to give our guests the time of their lives — actors and entertainment industry people tend to be very jaded. Ha! They nearly fainted over the music. From the minute you began the pre-ceremony selections we chose together until the end of what turned into a wonderfully exuberant party, they had a blast! Actually, we think someone really did faint — but that was much later.T.M., West Hollywood, CA
I am absolutely thrilled. You did exactly what you said you were going to do, all of the Louis Armstrong numbers and every single song I asked for. I knew you were going to be good, but you exceeded my wildest expectations.Frank K.
Anyone who is lucky enough to have Judy for a special event is getting a unique and authentic commodity, not some retro imitation of swing and jazz music. She could make Aretha Franklin jealous. She is very talented. What I like most about Judy is how she plays to a crowd. Whether she’s playing to 10 or 1000, she can completely capture an audience. Her performance is always wonderful. I do production for a large music venue in Los Angeles, and have heard a lot of bands. We are real music lovers, and almost everyone in our family has been a professional musician at one time or another. Our friends all love to dance. When we hired Judy to do our wedding they warned us: ‘This had better be good.’ And Judy and the band just blew them away. All night, people asked us, ‘Where did you find a band like this to play for your wedding?’A.T.
Ask Judy Chamberlain to sing your favorite song from The Great American Songbook, and you can make a safe bet that — no matter how obscure it may be — she’ll do it on the spot, usually including the rarely done verse while adding her own gently swinging emphasis. If she doesn’t know the tune, hum a few bars and there’s a fair chance she’ll have it ready to go for the next set. Chamberlain’s easygoing interaction with her listeners transforms celebrations into marvelously spontaneous events.Don Heckman, Los Angeles Times
Judy Chamberlain has mastered the art of mesmerizing both the audience and her own band. All Music Guide
Jazz singer Judy Chamberlain solidly affirms the music’s far-reaching, continuing vitality…the pleasures of jazz as entertainment.Don Heckman, Los Angeles Times
My husband and I dreamed about a jazz band the moment we started thinking about what kind of music we wanted at our wedding. I went searching and found Judy Chamberlain. I contacted her letting her know that I wanted music that embodied Frank, Ella, the Golden Age of Broadway and “all that jazz”.

I can ensure that this woman and her band live up to EVERY 5 star review and fantastic quotes listed on her website. She was a dream come true. Her repertoire is expansive and vast, just like the skill she uses to sing it. You wont be close to sorry if you book Ms. Chamberlain. In fact, you’ll be more than elated 🙂Nate & Megan

Dear Judy, Nathan and I knew we wanted you the moment we stumbled onto your website. You and your band are the epitome of class. I don’t remember my exact words when I contacted you, but I know I wanted Frank, Ella, the Golden Age of Broadway and all that jazz! You fit the bill. Thank you so much for giving us a reception fit for royalty! God bless you and all your future endeavors. We couldn’t be more pleased with our choice.Megan and Nathan
Judy and her band are extraordinary! She was nonstop entertainment from our ceremony to our reception. She is the best at what she does. When talking to Judy, it was like talking to a long lost friend. She knew exactly what I wanted and we actually spent hours on the phone. She even found, practiced, and performed an old Chinese tune that had a lot of meaning to my parents and me. My husband I cannot thank Judy and her band enough. I was also worried that no one would dance during the reception, but she really got the crowd going. Even my 87 year old grandmother got on the dance floor and boogied. I am so happy to have found Judy and she really made the entire event memorable for everyone who attended the wedding. She went out of her way to coordinate with all my vendors to make sure everything went without a hitch. For all future big events I will definitely give Judy a call. For all those who are looking for a truly entertaining band with class and personality, give Judy a call.Jennifer Ho
Judy is an original. She sings ‘At Last’ better than Etta James. When she sings songs I’ve heard before, it’s as if I’m hearing them for the first time. She makes them totally her own. Even when she sings songs I haven’t heard before, she draws me in and I’m captivated by the lyrics and melodies. She sings wonderful songs. Everyone who was at our daughter’s reception told us how much they enjoyed the music. Nearly a year later, we’re STILL getting compliments about the band.Shari Lightstone, Scottsdale, AZ
I LOVE YOU JUDY CHAMBERLAIN!Jonne-Marie Switzler, Manager/Playboy Jazz Festivals
Hiring Judy and her band is quite honestly the best decision you can make for your wedding or special event. They are extremely talented, professional and elegant entertainers who know how to read a crowd and set the appropriate mood.

Judy’s musical knowledge is truly mind-blowing! Plus she is very sensitive to your needs. For example, when deciding what song I should walk down the aisle to, Judy didn’t just throw out names of songs, but instead talked to me about what it felt like to be in love with my now-husband. Based on my answers, she started singing a song to me over the phone that brought tears to my eyes and I knew that was the one!

In short, my dream wedding became MY wedding because of Judy!Catherine Foster

Hello Judy! I wanted to drop you a note just to say hello and thank you again for giving me and my husband the most incredible musical experience at our wedding. We’re still living in the NYC area, and I find myself telling my friends and co-workers about the wedding often.

Just yesterday, I was talking about the music and pulled up your website to show a co-worker and it just brought back so many great feelings and memories, I had to write you a quick note. I clicked through the many pictures and imagine my surprise when I found some of our own wedding, right there! I hope this Valentine’s Day is bringing you much love and joy in your life and career, and I wish you all the best. I really cherish the long talks we had leading up to our big day and I truly appreciate everything you and your band have given us. Many thanks and take care…Lyn Lynch (nee Montagna) and Stephen Lynch, New York, NY

Judy, we want to thank you again for making our party so special. You and the band really captured the mood we wanted to create. Everyone to a person raved about the musicians and your singing. Needless to say we will look forward to the possibility of bringing you all back for a future event. Thanks so much! I got to hear ‘Summer Wind’ twice – a real treat – and your sax player’s John Wayne imitation, to boot.Robert Spira
Over the past decade I have officiated thousands of wedding ceremonies and without a doubt the most memorable and enjoyable ceremony I have ever officiated used Judy Chamberlain and her ensemble for both their ceremony and their reception. Versus disk jockeys and string quartets, Judy outshines them all. She offers all types of music from rock to swing. After the ceremony, I heard so many compliments from the guests as to what a treat it was not to have the typical disk jockey music. The bride also told me how Judy gave her and her husband-to-be so many tips and guidance to make their ceremony and reception an event to remember. Judy exudes the professionalism that I rarely, if ever, encounter.Reverend Michael Ahern, Laguna Beach, CA
And then you just went ahead and made the wedding!Greg Wood
Judy and the band performed at my Old Hollywood style wedding. Their performance summed up in one word? AWESOME! They were a major contribution to the elegant ambiance. She helped me choose the ceremony music when I told her I didn’t want the traditional wedding march. She was an incredible MC and could read a crowd better than any other wedding band I’ve ever seen.Alina Peters
Our event was simply MADE by Judy Chamberlain and the musical talent she brings. Judy Chamberlain is far and away NOT merely a ‘wedding quality’ act. Her musicians are pros (and sometimes names) who are playing at your event because they like to play and meld seamlessly with Judy’s music, vocals, and arrangements. We worked this lady hard. Several music approaches, some from other countries, and a mix of styles for the Opening, Ceremony, Dining, Dancing, and Reception. The kind of classy Jazz that makes you think people should be dressed up – but they were smiling no matter their attire, age, or background.

Judy is stunningly talented, refreshingly honest, and an amazing musical designer who listened to our needs, then met them all. We wanted the best music from the USA – – – and even some Ukranian tunes. Hey, they even played “Rubber Duckie” as part of an inside joke to the groom.

We had guests from 6 states and three countries at this event. Judy was enthusiastic, straightforward, and amazingly talented. I’m a business guy and Judy shot straight, went beyond what was asked, got people who are used to having people who watch them need to buy a ticket first. These performers were REALLY good. She designed different instrument combinations for the different needs of the room. Right after my wife, Judy was the biggest reason the hours long extravaganza was the event that is still talked about at family gatherings.

I know nothing about music. I just know this lady did it right.Tim Greenwood

I think the second best decision I ever made was hiring you. The first one was deciding to marry the boy.Emily Ogle
Hey Judy, The whole band was great. They were so talented! Sam and I loved the band because we could tell that they love what they do. As you know it makes a difference when one puts a soul into music makes that much difference. That is the difference between the band that you provided vs other bands out there. Not only did they put their best effort into singing but they put their souls into singing. We as musicians, Sam and I loved it.

Sam kept saying how beautiful the wedding turned out to be thanks to the band. He didn’t like the quartet that we had hired thru someone else for the ceremony very much because they were there to get their hours clocked in and out. But your band gave us so much, even after the wedding was over and the guests had left and Sam and I wanted to have a dance to ourselves. Sam and I danced to “It Had To Be You” and “La Vie En Rose” all to ourselves. Everyone was gone but ONLY Sam and I had that dance. It felt so special to have the dance floor to ourselves and no one else. It felt like I was part of the movie. Sam kept praising about what a difference the band made for us. Most of people who had a wedding told me they wished they would have saved money somewhere but we said we will exactly spent the money the same way and have it no other way. Because it was just perfect.

Judy, all my girl friends cried when i was dancing with my dad. I was crying and my Dad was crying and when he was crying he said “I am so proud of you, for just being you. I can’t ask for a better daughter.” I still get tearful thinking about my dad. I know that moment will always stay with me in my heart. I told my dad “I love you very much and thank you for raising me and thank you.” We danced to “What A Wonderful World” from the beginning to end. My friend whose dad just passed away, she told me “It was so beautiful but heartbreaking at the same time and I was just thinking about my dad” and my other friend who had such a hard time with her own dad because of their differences, she said “Helen, you dancing with your father really hit me home, I wish one day I can be like you and your dad” And Sam said ‘When you were dancing with your dad, i was so tearful. I was trying my best not to cry but it was really hard watching you and dad crying together. It was really touching.’

I think your band made my wedding so special that no one else ever could have done it. Judy, I am so thankful to you and your band for making my wedding day so memorable. I heard so many compliments from my relatives and friends. Some of my friends are unmarried, and they all LOVED THE BAND. So I will be referring them to you.

I saved a couple of mugs for you from our wedding favors. My brother made them. They are so clever. You and I have a good sense of humor, I thought you might enjoy them too. Hopefully you have received them. Love you dearly,Helen Park

The best thing we did for our daughter’s wedding was to hire Judy Chamberlain to do the music. Every single guest complimented our choice of band, and the dance floor was filled all night. The people who didn’t want to dance enjoyed the music, as well as the conversations at the tables. We’ve been to weddings where you couldn’t even hear yourselves think, so we really appreciated that the sound was evenly distributed and expertly managed. We had a specific theme-inspired song list, which Judy helped us create. She has an amazing repertoire and can give you anything you want! My daughter feels that Judy really set the tone for her wedding day, taking her cue from the look and feel that we wanted to achieve, and really personalizing the selections to help our guests ‘get it.’ She and her very talented musicians kept everyone mesmerized all night. We are still receiving compliments. If we could re-live one night over and over, it would be the night of our daughter’s wedding.Barbara and Rand Drake
You were incredible. You gave me everything I wanted and did it so beautifully. You sang ‘At Last’ as though it was the first time rather than the 5,782nd time. The way you did ‘The Very Thought Of You” was so perfect. I had a wonderful night — everything went right. The music was classy and exciting. Fabulous voice, wonderful energy. The way you commemorated my grandparents’ sixtieth anniversary by telling the story of their first meeting and then playing ‘their song’ from all those years ago was absolutely beautiful. Nobody who heard and saw that will ever forget it.Erica Self
I’ve worked at luxury properties for more than fifteen years, and I have never, EVER seen a crowd react to a band the way the people did here tonight. They were up on their feet, cheering and applauding before the bridal party even made their entrance. And it was like that all night. I am your new biggest fan.M.L.
I have never heard or seen a band that can compare with yours. I refer you to everyone who calls me.Jane Z., Photographer

Judy – Thank you so much for setting the mood at our wedding. The music was lively and fun just as we had hoped. For me, the most memorable part of the night was the first dance, a pairing of The Way You Look Tonight and I Won’t Dance. Though we did not practice with live music, it went off perfectly, allowing our photographer to have a field day in great action shots. Thanks for everything!Gavin and Taryn
Judy, thank you so much for playing at our wedding. You and your band did an amazing job and we couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out. So many of our guests are still raving about how great the music was! I really hope that we have the opportunity to see you again soon! Thanks again,Josh and Manny Hobbs
We used the Judy Chamberlain band at our October 15th wedding. They were AMAZING! Our guests are still raving about how outstanding the music was. She has a repertoire of thousands of different songs she can play. Judy was our singer, we also had a keyboard player, a guitar player and a drummer. It was a small band but they were able to give us some BIG music!! I would highly recommend her for all of your music needs!!Manny B., Tyler, Texas, October 2011
Judy, you are amazing! You are not just an amazing talent, but you were so generous with your time and abilities. The tone of the evening was set by you, and everyone was just buzzing about the entertainment. Is it too early to book you for next year? I really appreciate everything you did for me and the church. You helped make the entire event a huge success. Love, AshleighAshleigh Aitken, Chair - 2010 Taste of St. Paul's
I expect a lot from a lounge performer. I expect some singing. I expect some jokes. And, of course, I expect a comprehensive critique of my dinner. Being such a demanding guy, I naturally found myself on a dark and stormy Friday night at 21 Oceanfront in Newport Beach, where saloon singer Judy Chamberlain and her revolving gang of top-flight jazzmen have created one of the coolest bar scenes in Orange County. I am enjoying this latest incarnation best of all because it is more than just good food. It has brought a sophisticated nightlife scene to an area best known for beer-swilling, cheap pizza and Hooters. I credit Chamberlain for a lot of that. Since she arrived for her Friday-night gigs, the place has jumped and jived a few notches on the excitement meter. If her name sounds familiar, you have good taste. Or at least you like to taste good food. She is the former restaurant critic for the Newport Ensign, Daily Pilot and radio station K-Ocean. You might even have seen her on OCN.Barry Koltnow, O.C.
